Skin Tightening
Deep Heating
The Palomar LuxIR™ Fractional Handpiece
sends infrared light pulses deep into
the dermis, where it creates a carefully controlled area
of elevated temperature.
Skin Tightening through Soft Tissue Coagulation.
These areas
of elevated temperature cause soft tissue coagulation,
which can lead
to collagen remodeling in the deep dermis. Remodeled collagen
can tighten
sagging skin. Deep heating with infrared light can also
stimulate increased
collagen production, to create long term results.
Fractional Technology
The LuxIR’s infrared light is
delivered as an array of small, regularly spaced beams,
with depth of treatment ranging from 1.5 to 3 mm into the
deep dermis. This
Fractional Heating creates a lattice of hyperthermic islets,
with each islet
surrounded by unaffected tissue. Right: view from above
of the beams emanating
from the rectangular LuxIR treatment window.
Fractional Deep Heating is a much safer method of treatment
because the
overheated islets do not cause bulk damage of the target
area. In addition,
subsequent regrowth of cells and new collagen expression
from neighboring
healthy tissue during the healing process provides a quicker
remodeling process,
with little to no downtime for the client.
Safety Features
The LuxIR has several additional safety features,
including a Contact Sensor
attached to the handpiece tip, which will not allow pulsing
until the handpiece
window is in full contact with the skin. Once in contact,
the LuxIR delivers 3-Stage
Contact Cooling – before, during, and after each
pulse – with
the handpiece tip
cooled down to 5º C. Compared to competing systems,
the LuxIR offers superior
skin protection and comfort. Left: LuxIR cooling the
skin as it pulses.

What is it?
The IR Skin Tightening procedure is the newest non-surgical
energy-based treatment used to tighten skin and reverse the
signs of aging. The treatment heats the skin to create collagen
contraction, and stimulates long-term collagen rebuilding,
leaving patients with younger-looking skin. It employs infrared
light to lift and tighten the skin so that gravity changes
are softened, fine wrinkles are less obvious and pores are
shrunken
Who is this for?
It is most commonly used on people who want to tone, lift
and tighten skin on the face and neck, especially for improvement
of the jaw line and neck laxity. Long-term acne scarring
can also be dramatically improved. The uneven “orange
peel” texture and whitened scars associated with acne
are also minimized.
How does it work?
This treatment gives you an all-natural option to actively
turn back the clock on aging skin. Using light energy to
stimulate new collagen growth deep beneath your skin's surface,
the LuxIR Fractional Procedure can tighten the skin on your
face, arms, abdomen, and legs. It's an ideal solution to
enhance your youthful and healthy appearance without surgery
or recovery time.
This procedure requires several treatment sessions (each
spaced 1 month apart). There is no downtime and it is practically
painless. Immediately following the treatment, you may notice
some mild redness that dissipates within 30 minutes. You
can return immediately to work.
The advantage of the LuxIR Fractional Procedure over the
therma-lifting techniques is that the skin and underlying
fat are heated uniformly, thus avoiding differential heating
of the fat; therefore, the risks of dents and atrophy of
the skin are much less likely. Fractional technology results
in safer treatment and faster healing time. The LuxIR Fractional
Technology employs light energy that provides a more uniform
distribution of energy for heating the deep dermis than other
energy sources, such as RF (radio frequency).
Improvement of the abdominal area is also very exciting
but must be tempered with the realization that stretch marks
may not go away with this treatment.
